The Donor for Honor initiative was first conceived in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 2016 as a response to the ongoing challenge of recruiting donors among young people. After a two-year development period, the foundational concept prototype was successfully launched in November 2018. This early success led to the formal establishment of the organization in the Netherlands, including the drafting of a special Dutch Article Law by a notary in February 2019 and the official registration with the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under CR number 74308041 in March 2019. Although a core team was collected in January 2020, the project, like many others, was placed on a temporary pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Five years later, in October 2025, the international blueprint was reinitiated, bringing the powerful Donor for Honor mission to Finnish campuses.
Donor for Honor is the essential link between Finland’s academic community and its national healthcare needs. While proudly founded by passionate students at the Turku University of Applied Sciences, our mission has quickly grown—we are now building a culture of life-saving commitment across all Finnish campuses. We act as guides and motivators, directing our peers to the official, trusted services of the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service (Veripalvelu).

Our Non-Profit Commitment
Donor for Honor is fundamentally built on volunteer power and academic rigor. As a student-driven initiative with its international roots established as a non-profit entity (Amsterdam, 2019), our operational costs are currently minimal and primarily absorbed by the project group and volunteer effort at Turku University of Applied Sciences.
Future Accountability
Should Donor for Honor scale up and begin formal fundraising to support expansion across Finland, we are committed to maintaining 100% financial transparency. All future income and expenditures will be documented and made publicly accessible, ensuring every cent advances our core mission.

Donor for Honor is committed to measuring our effectiveness not just in clicks, but in the tangible life-saving actions we guide students toward. As a newly re-initiated initiative, our initial impact data focuses on engagement, education, and the successful adoption of our website.
Our Ultimate Goal
While the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service (Veripalvelu) tracks the physical units of blood collected, our success is measured by the number of new, committed donors we successfully introduce to the national donation system. Our commitment is to grow the pipeline of young, reliable donors for the future of Finnish healthcare.
